Practical Action is implementing dairy market development component of Market Access for Smallholder Farmers (MASF) project in Tanahu, Chitwan, Dhading and Gorkha Districts. The project is funded by UKaid from the Department for International Development (DFID).

Practical Action’s NGO partners seek to recruit following positions based in Chitwan, Dhading, Gorkha and Tanahun for a period of 24 months:

Practical Action’s NGO partners seek to recruit following positions based in Chitwan, Dhading, Gorkha and Tanahun for a period of 24 months:

1. Project Coordinator (PC)

1 position in Tanahu only

The PC will guide, supervise and lead the district team in a coordinated way to plan and implement project activities with the technical support from the Project Management Unit (PMU), Chitwan. S/he is expected to work with a wide range of technical experts, consultants and project staff to supervise district team in establishing farmer/producer groups, providing technical trainings, organising events and workshops and coordinating with relevant stakeholders with the objective of strengthening the dairy value chain in the district. This position requires excellent coordination skills, report writing abilities and financial analysis experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Development Studies or Management or Social Science with at least two years of work experience in related field or Bachelors Degree with three years of work experience in related field.
  • High level of skills in project planning and management, demonstrated skills in prioritising task and meeting deadlines.
  • Good knowledge and preferred experience on participatory research/development approaches, livestock management, community mobilisation, market development approaches and project implementation skills.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills with fluency in spoken and written English and Nepali.

2. Livestock Officer (LO)

1 in each district

Responsible to the Project Coordinatior, the LO will lead the planning and implementation of all technical activities related to livestock development in the district. This includes a strong focus on partnering with public line agencies, local service providers (agro vets, para vets and VAHWs) and other key actors to provide capacity building trainings to smallholder farmers/farmer groups/CBOs and local cooperatives for better milk production, enhanced quality and better incomes benefiting smallholder dairy farmers. This position requires high level of technical skills in livestock development and preference will be given to experienced candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Livestock Development, Animal Health, Dairy Science/Technology or related field with three years of experience in similar capacity (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Proven experience, skills and knowledge on dairy management, animal health, feed/fodder management, processing technologies and livestock extension services.
  • High level of analytical skills in planning, report writing and project implementation.

3. Field Technician (FT)

1 in each district

The FT will work directly with farmer/farmer groups and supervise a team of Community Mobilisers in each district to implement project activities. Reporting to the Livestock Officer and in close coordination with other technical experts the FT is expected to lead and deliver a package of technical trainings, services and inputs for increasing production and livelihood opportunities of smallholder dairy farmers. This position requires close coordination with local Community Mobilisers and other community based extension service providers. This is a technical position demanding extensive field travel and comprehensive field experience especially in livestock and dairy sector.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Intermediate in Animal Science, Animal Health Management or Livestock Development with at least two years of work experience in related field or Livestock JTA course from CTEVT or certified vocational institutes and 4 years of experience in the related field.
  • Proven ability to work in rural and remote context and good communication skills.
  • Candidates with previous work experience in Livestock and/or Dairy will be given preference.

4. Project Accountant (PA)

3 positions (Chitwan, Gorkha and Dhading Districts)

The Project Accountant will work in close coordination with Practical Action Nepal’s Administrative and Finance Associate (AFA) based in Project Management Unit (PMU), Chitwan ensuring that the District Project Team follows all key administrative and financial guidelines and policies in the effective implementation of MASF Project in compliance with the policies of respective partner NGOs, Practical Action and donor guidelines. This position requires in depth accounting and financial management experiences and skills along with the ability to use accounting software.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Studies with two years experience in Administration and Finance areas.
  • Good communication skills, working experience on computer software and good command in written and spoken English.
  • Able to handle office correspondence independently, provide administrative support to project team and able to multi task and work in stressful conditions.
