Curriculum Development Center in Nepal – CDC Nepal
Curriculum Development Center (CDC), an academic Center, under the Ministry of Education is established with an aim to develop curricula, textbooks along with other instructional materials for school education in order to achieve the national goals of education. This Center conducts annual as well as periodic discussion, interaction, dissemination programs on the usefulness of the instructional materials. Furthermore, it also conducts research-oriented programs to make school education relevant, practical and competitive. School education is considered as the foundation stone for the development of responsive and capable citizens. Therefore, this Center which was initially established as Curriculum, Textbook and Supervision Center in 1971 and named Curriculum Development Center later in 1997, is determined to integrate the needs and interest of students in school education through learner centered teaching learning process from its inception.
This Center is headed by a Gazetted I class officer as the Executive Director and the center teams with 60 staffs comprising of both technical and administrative fields. The office of this center is located at Sanothimi, Bhaktapur.
The vision of CDC is to identify itself as an academic center by developing appropriate curricula, textbooks and other instructional materials required for job oriented, student centered, practical, life skills oriented, vocational, competitive and qualitative school education.
Curriculum Development Center Objective
The main objective of CDC is to prepare patriotic and job-oriented human resources from school education and be able to develop, revise and improve school curricula and textbooks and implement them. To develop, disseminate and distribute instructional materials such as curricula, teacher’s guides, teacher resource materials and children’s reference materials. Utilize the latest knowledge, skills and technology that is available so far that includes and transfers indigenous technology.
CDC main functions are basically to develop, pilot, update, revise and implement school curricula as per existing rules and regulations and also develop, pilot, update, revise and implement school curricula and curricular materials. To list and publicize additional instructional materials. CDC makes necessary provision for conducting school level co-curricular materials and conducts research studies on curricula and text books. To not just develop but also distribute reference materials as required. Its main duty is to function as the secretariat of the National Curriculum Development and Assessment Council and disseminate curricula and curricula related materials developed by CDC. It provides certificate of equivalence for the secondary level school education completion certificates awarded by foreign schools/ institutions or boards and carries out activities related to curriculum and students assessment. To exploit latest knowledge, skills and technology used so far in education and to promote and transfer the indigenous knowledge, skills and technology. Specify the benchmarks of learning achievement. CDC involves and coordinate private sectors, civil society and local organizations in curricular activities. Finally CDC receive or record feedback related to school curricula from the group of subject wise academicians, as well as concerned institutions or persons.
